Volunteer to be a coach at DinoMights!
One way to help us equip urban youth is by being a volunteer hockey coach. DinoMights’ coaches create a powerful positive impact in the lives of kids participating in our program.
In our 2015 annual survey of DinoMights' participants, 92% said they felt connected to a coach or tutor. The kids pointed to their coaches as being a source of confidence, connection and caring. Here are a few comments about what the coaches meant to the kids:
“He always wants to make me better.”
“You’re part of my family… you help me, pick me up, and you make me feel good. You care about me.”
“He’s taught me a lot about God.”
“Makes me work hard.”
“We play together and we do fun things.”
“Gives me confidence.”
And coaches enjoy the experience too! In our annual volunteer survey, volunteers rated their overall experience working with DinoMights an average of 4.6 out of 5. Every coach said they felt they were able to build a positive relationship with at least one student and 100% of our coaches from last season have indicated they want to return. One new volunteer shared, “I grew to love the program, kids, and volunteers… it soon became a part of my week that I looked forward to and looked for other opportunity to engage with kids.”
As we make plans for growing the program in the future, we’re now accepting applications for volunteer coaches for the 2015-16 season.
