Awards Day 2016

Like many sports organizations, DinoMights celebrates the end of each season with a gathering with food and awards.  And like sports parents everywhere, our families are always happy to celebrate when the ceremony is short and sweet.

At DinoMights we’ve learned that when you’re getting over 90 kids from Mites to PeeWees (and their families) together, it’s especially important to keep things moving. So we keep things simple on Awards Day. And we’re always grateful when we can end on time, as we did this year on March 15.

DinoMights’ coaches presented simple awards that celebrated the unique contribution of each player, everything from “Most Lovable” to “Most Improved.” The titles change every year, depending on the kids. And this year, the Squirts coaches got the kids involved, with the second year players creating and announcing the awards for the first year players.  It offered a great opportunity for these 6th graders to practice a little bit of public speaking, and demonstrates one of the many little ways programming is built into everything we do.

We also recognized Mike Ervin, this year’s DinoMight “Volunteer of the Year.” In his 8th year as a coach in our Mites program, Mike took on a leadership role this season after our staff coach Kate was relocated to Ghana for mission work. During a season with a record number of Mite skaters, Mike handled the transition gracefully and kept our bullpen of Mite coaches well-informed and well-prepared. Thanks so much for your dedication, Mike!
